Chania, Crete – Greece: Gorge Holidays
Sunday, March 8th, 2009Chania is a great town placed in the West of Crete. Sitting on the coast it has long stretches of sandy beach, bars and taverna’s and a beautiful Venetian Harbour. The old town is full of character and charm and the new town provides everything you need for a truly awesome holiday, from markets to cosmopolitan shops you can’t go wrong.
The Samaria Gorge lies in the Western side of Crete and is it’s only National Park. Created by the river running between the white mountains and Mt Volakias, the gorge runs for 16km. Visitors are advised to take a few drinks for the walk as it’s a steep walk down, then you can either go back up or catch a boat at the end back to the town (the better option!)
