Marrakech, Morocco: Mountain Holidays

Marrakech is a truly awe inspiring holiday destination, full of rich and diverse history and culture without ignoring the present you can delve into the mixed history of Marrakech in the comforts of a modern hotel. Street musicians, storytellers and the smell of spices fill the air as you wonder through the town square. You have to see the Koutoubia Mosque which dominates the Marrakech skyline.

The Atlas Mountains run for almost 1,500 miles through Morocco, Algeria and Tunisia. The range itself is divided into many smaller ranges which were all created around the same time millions of years ago, they are some of the older mountains in the world and hold many interesting secrets. These mountains once rivalled the Himalayas but erosion has taken its toll and the highest point is now 13,671 ft (Everest = 29,029 ft. )

Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt: Canyon Holidays

Sharm El Sheikh is the place to go if you love to dive, want to try diving or fancy some snorkelling. It has clear tropical waters brimming with all the colours you can imagine, fish, coral reefs and wrecks are just some of the things you can discover. If diving isn’t for you then why not relax on the long stretches of white sandy beach. Or the local bedouin tribes with their colourful tents or the desert or the mountains. You will never be stuck for something to do.

Geologically, Sharm El Sheik is very interesting, from Mt Sinai, to the Sulphur Springs, the desert, the beaches, the underwater geology and the Sinai Peninsular itself. One of the most fascinating and incredible sites to see is the Coloured Canyon. Yellows, blues, reds, purples and greens are amongst some of the colours you will see in the canyons. Here old rivers have cut their way through the rocks creating incredible views of the layers deposited through time.

Dubai, U.A.E: Desert Holidays

Dubai is part of the United Arab Emirates (U.A.E) which can be found on the Southern Coast of the Persian Gulf. Renowned for 7* Hotels, long stretches of clear white sand beaches and the ultimate in luxury and style. Hot temperatures mixed with Arabian cultures make it great for sun-seekers or culture lovers. Not forgetting the duty free shopping!

The Arabian Desert is full of interesting geological features including huge sand dunes, canyons and the odd bit of quicksand! The sands get the orangey colour due to rust, well it’s a fine coating of iron oxide on the sand, which is mainly quartz. To the East of the city you will find Sabkha’s (salty plains) and at the border with Oman at a place called Hatta you will find the Western Hajar Mountains.
