Agadir, Morocco: Beach Holidays
Agadir is in the Southwest of Morocco and is famed for it’s sea food brought straight up the beaches from the Atlantic Ocean. The beach stretches for a good 6km and is soft under foot. The air is filled with spice in Agadir, and although the town is fairly newly built it is Moroccan at heart. Stroll along the beach, sample the food, hit the town but make sure you enjoy your Agadir experience.
February 29th, 1960 saw Morocco’s biggest recorded earthquake destroy the original town of Agadir. It measured 6.7 on the Richter scale and was followed by a tidal wave which added to the destruction. 2 days later the whole town was evacuated and eventually rebuilt around 3 km South of the epicentre of the earthquake. You can still visit the old town and old Kasbah where you can see the old front gate which says on it in Dutch “Fear God and honour thy King”.
